Cab Driver Strangled By Robbers

A five man criminal gang has been arrested by operatives of the Anti-robbery squad of the state department of criminal investigation for strangling a cab driver, Sonye Chukwudi. The victim, also known as Zack Friday was said to have been tricked by the robbers to the Ransome Kuti gardens, Anthony Village because they thought he had a lot of money. It was when he had been bound and killed that they realized that the 32 year old had just his phone and N4500 in his pocket. The robbers, Anthony Toms (20), Godwin Francis (25), Michael Inyang (21), Evidence David (22), and Etuk Tony (23) hid the body in the garden and were about to flee in the victim’s vehicle when they were apprehended by the police. “They were four that planned the crime. Toms was their informant. He told them the man was rich. “He told Chukwudi that he had a job for him. He said the man would carry some flowers for a customer from Anthony Village to Obanikoro.” The man who was supposed to drive the criminals away alerted the police and they trailed him to the place. When he was called by the criminals, the police surrounded the place and apprehended them although two of them were shot in the legs as they tried to resist arrest. The king pin Toms however said they didn’t plan to take his life “I am a gardener. I work in that garden at Anthony. I met the man about two years ago. “That day, I just wanted to collect the money and steal his car, which we estimated at about N2m. He struggled with us and died in the process.” Recently, the Lagos state police command appointed James Okeke to head the command’s Special Anti-Robbery Squad.
